Tirrenia
Information & Tips about Tirrenia:
Tirrenia lies in the middle of the Tuscan coast, surrounded by the pinewood typical of Pisan shores, a little town on the Ligurian Sea. However, this expanse of sea is usually considered as belonging to the Tyrrhenian Sea; hence the name Tirrenia. In the past, this area was marshy and impassable, but the Fascist government changed the situation by reclaiming the zone and making Tirrenia the "Pearl of the Mediterranean Sea". Now, this town is very famous as a tourist destination attracting thousands of vacationers both from Italy and foreign countries. The main attraction is undoubtedly represented by its sandy beaches extended for about ten kilometers, where you can find several bathing establishments as well as free areas. Tirrenia can boast one of the last coastal dune environment in Italy with the presence of rare species of plants; for this reason, the WWF oasis "Dune di Tirrenia" has been recently established.
The clear and unpolluted waters are ideal for families with younger children; furthermore, many water sports can be played, such as, for example, sailing and underwater fishing. Under the thick, Mediterranean pinewood you can make exciting excursions or relaxing walks, or you can experience a bike tour, or choose horse riding; moreover, there are a lot of sport facilities surrounded by nature where you can play beach volleyball, golf, soccer, tennis and horse-riding. Even in the night you can enjoy yourself in Tirrenia: besides restaurants and lounge bars, young people can find numerous discos and night clubs open during the Summer as well as the Winter seasons.
Furthermore, Pisa and Leghorn are not so distant from the town, and there are also many other little towns to discover.
