Rosignano Marittimo is one of the most renowned centres in Tuscany for its well-equipped beaches with modern bathing establishments. The "white beaches", located to the South of the town between Rosignano Solvay and the centre of Vada, are particularly appreciated by tourists. Their name derives from the unusual color of the sand which is very light, like the sand we can find in the tropics, because of the sodium bicarbonate manufacturing plants in the area of Rosignano Solvay, just one kilometer far from the coast. Washed by the Ligurian Sea, the beaches are free but provided with fee-paying car park, while the parking of motorcycles is free. Many activities can be carried out: sports fans can choose between windsurf, kitesurf and sailing courses, besides the more classical water sports and beach games.
The White Beaches are one of the most popular destination among young people, especially those coming from the neighborhoods; Rosignano Marittimo is crowded with young people during the Summer Season and at weekends. However, families also like it for they can surely find a moment's peace. As far as the naturalistic environment is concerned, apart from the beautiful beaches, there is Poggio Pelato, the highest mount in the town: it is an ancient, extinct volcano the top of which is covered only with shrubs, and it is ideal for excursions and trips. Especially in the afternoon, it's wonderful to have a walk in the green following its numerous paths or riding a bike along the dirt roads.
