Portoferraio

Information & Tips about Portoferraio:

Portoferraio, the most densely populated town on the Isola d'Elba, is considered the main town of the island. It lies in the Northern side of the island, in a central position; its coast, extending for more than 24 kilometers, is characterized by enchanted beaches plunging into a crystal clear sea. Every year, many tourists, from Italy and foreign countries, choose Portoferraio as destination of their holidays: the town is, indeed, one of the most beautiful centre on the Isola d'Elba. Among the most renowned and popular beaches in the town, we can surely mention those in the Gulf of Biodola with their white sand: the beach of Biodola, the beach of Forno and that of Scaglieri all provided with the services required. Even the famous beach of Capobianco is beautiful, and those of Sansone and Sansonella as well. For those who like a closer contact with unpolluted nature, we recommend the several coves following one another from the city centre to Enfola and Viticcio: the panoramas you can enjoy here are really suggestive, with their clear waters through which you can admire the sandy seafloor, the white gravel and the Posidonia meadows. Most of these beaches, made up above all by white, smooth pebbles, can be easily reached from the land; but, due to the lack of car parks, it's advisable to get there on foot or by bike. Sports fans, besides enjoying the sun and the sea, can do several things, such as sailing and underwater activities.

In the night Portoferraio is full of life: tourists walking along the city centre and the quay among little shops, bars and restaurants. You can enjoy yourself even late at night in discos and fashionable clubs crowded with young people.
