Porto Ercole
Information & Tips about Porto Ercole:
Porto Ercole is a small village in the Argentario located on the Eastern side of the promontory, about ten kilometers far from Porto Santo Stefano, the most populated town.
The village, which is very famous and appreciated, is a tourist attraction for many Italian and foreign people who like its golden beaches and its clear, calm waters. Among the most wonderful beach there is undoubtedly that of Feniglia, bounded by a thick pinewood where you can find shelter from the sun in the hottest hours of the day. This beach is made up of fine sand, can be easily reached by car or by bike, and is characterized by the presence of large, wild areas where it is possible to spend a whole day of total relaxation. However, for those who prefer to have all comforts and services, there are also some well-equipped bathing establishments, ideal for families with children. Furthermore, it is worthwhile mentioning the beaches Viste, the nearest to the city centre, characterized by sand and smooth pebbles, the Acqua Dolce and Spiaggia Lunga, though the latter is not so easy to reach because of its steep, access road. However, the best way to enjoy the sea of Porto Ercole is to rent a rubber boat or a small boat: in this way you can get to the numerous isolated and uncontaminated rocky coves.
In the night, you can visit the old city of this small town, at the foot of the imposing Spanish Fortress that dominates the whole territory: the city centre has preserved its old alleys, squares and flights of steps leading to the port. To go for a walk along the seaside promenade can be a fantastic experience: you can find many bars, restaurants and little shops facing the port, where big boats and yachts are moored.
