Pantelleria lies right in the middle of the Strait of Sicily and is halfway between Italy and Africa. It is a marvelous volcanic island surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea. If you are looking for relaxing and amusing holidays, Pantelleria is the right place to go; it is also easy to reach by sea and by air. Though being very near to the African continent, its climate is mild thanks to the winds constantly blowing; indeed, Pantelleria is also called the Island of the Wind.
Its main attraction is surely the beauty of its territory, from the coast to the hinterland, from the crystal-clear sea to the internal thick vegetation. The several small beaches and coves are particularly worth mentioning for they are preferred destinations of tourists in search of sea and sun.
Among the best ones we can mention Cala Arco dell'Elefante, one of the main tourist attractions the name of which is due to the strange shape of the rocks, looking like the trunk of an elephant that drinks in the sea waters. It is easy to gain access to the beach, so it is also suitable for families with children; the sea is very clean and the coast is rocky. Furthermore, there is a diving centre not so far from here for those who love sports.
On the Northern side of the island, the Laghetto delle Ondine is another beautiful place to go. It is a small natural basin created by the erosion of sea waves. Its waters are salty and constantly supplied by the sea; moreover, many grottos and inlets are present, while there are pinewoods all around.
The lake Specchio di Venere is also worth visiting; it is an expanse of water created inside an ancient volcanic crater. It is a damp area where several species of animals live and, in particular, rare birds nest; there are also hot springs.
We recommend tourists to visit the whole island so that they can appreciate all of its several natural and artistic attractions; in many spots on the island tourists can also rent a car, a scooter, or a bicycle.
