Orbetello
Information & Tips about Orbetello:
The town of Orbetello is located at the centre of the homonymous lagoon, an important nature reserve; the municipal territory is very varied for it includes a humid, lagoon zone enclosed between two tombolos linking the Argentario to the dry land. They are exactly the large beaches characterizing Tombolo della Feniglia and Tombolo della Giannella to be the main tourist attraction for those who come and visit the town every year. In particular, the beach of Fenaglia is one of the most beautiful in the whole region of Tuscany: it is a protected area included in the State Nature Reserve of Dune di Feniglia. The coast is characterized by fine, golden sand alternated with some rocky tracts of land that give rise to small inlets, and by a crystal clear sea with warm, shallow water ideal for families with younger children. Close to the beach, there is a rich vegetation: the pinewood and the Mediterranean Maquis, that can give you shelter from the sun, are populated with ring-doves, owls, and pheasants. At the Feniglia, you can find several well-equipped bathing establishments, though most of the beaches are wild and free, characterized by trunks of trees, transported by the sea, that whiten in the sun. The other beach is that of Giannella, it also offers many tracts of free beach, besides being suitable for playing water sports and sailing.
Orbetello is particularly recommended for those who love nature: besides enjoying the sea, you can visit many nature reserve, such as Laguna di Orbetello, which is a WWF oasis, and the Natural Park of Maremma, not so far from it. Furthermore, the whole area is full of interesting archaeological findings of the Etruscan period. For young people looking for amusement and entertainment, the zone of Monte Argentario offers any kind of attractive facilities.
