Marciana Marina

Information & Tips about Marciana Marina:

Marciana Marina, a municipality of Isola d'Elba, is one of the smallest village in our peninsula given that it extends for only six square kilometers. Notwithstanding its poor size, the town is very famous among Italian and foreign tourists, especially during the Summertime when you can fully enjoy its naturalistic beauties.

The look of this town is very peculiar and picturesque due to the narrow alleys and the colored houses build on the rocks overlooking directly the sea. In Marciana Marina there are not large beaches but a lot of small coves enclosed between a rugged coastline and narrow valleys, and washed by clear waters; we can mention, among others, Cala and Caletta, unpolluted places immersed into a luxuriant vegetation so that they can be reached only on foot or by boat. Moreover, the beach of the Madonnina is wonderful, also called Punta Nera because of the dark color of the rock where the statue of the Virgin Mary is placed to protect the sailors and fishermen of the town. This beach is very peculiar thanks to the marvelous colors that characterize its territory making it unique: stones are black and white, while the rocks are reddish; it is ideal to spend a whole day in the sun without going too far from the city centre. Again, next to the centre of the gulf, there is Marina, the beach made of dark gravel provided with restaurants, bars and hotels.

During the Summer nights, the major meeting point in Marciana Marina is the seaside promenade crowded with local people and tourists attracted by the little shops open and by the beauty of Cotone, the oldest quarter of the town once inhabited by fishermen's families; the central square of the town is also very populated, in fact several cultural events and performances are organized here.
