Located on the coast of the Riviera di Ponente, between Pietra Ligure and Borghetto Santo Spirito, Loano is a renowned seaside and tourist destination. Thanks to its peculiar position, protected by a mountain range at the back of the built-up area, the small town can enjoy an optimal weather condition: the mountain range protects it from the north wind ensuring a mild and dry climate.
The quite large area of the coast is washed by the azure waters of the Ligurian Sea; the beach, made up of very light sand mixed with gravel and pebbles, is about two kilometers long and extends to the East of the dock; a submerged dam defends the waterfront from sea storms. Marine flora and fauna are extraordinary with the artificial barrier expressly studied to protect and repopulate the area: sea waters are clean and clear, rich in several species of fish and other marine animals. Moreover, Loano has a well-equipped port with a remarkable capacity for the navigation season lasts the whole year.
During the summertime you can do several outdoor activities in Loano, starting from that related to the sea such as swimming, sailing and windsurfing. For those who won't miss their appointment with fitness even if they are on holidays, many lessons of aerobics and spinning are organized on the seashore, not to mention beach volley games. There are also several traditional sport facilities: fields of basket, volleyball, soccer, mini-golf and bowls.
To have a walk along the promenade is ideal after a whole day spent on the beach; the course is full of seats overlooking the sea and it is adorned with palm trees and flower beds.
