Livorno

Information & Tips about Livorno:

Livorno, the main town of the homonymous province, lies on the coast of the Ligurian Sea. It is an important business and tourist centre attracting thousands of tourists every year thanks to its numerous bathing establishments. Between Livorno and Piombino several famous beaches follow one another, all awarded with Bandiera Blu in recognition of their beauty, cleanliness, and safety.

The panorama road of the town allows you to drive along the coast looking at the sea and the wonderful landscapes characterized by sandy beaches, rocks, gravels and rugged cliffs; from the port of Livorno driving along the Nineteenth-century avenue, nine kilometres long, you can reach the old village of Antignano. Along the course, you can admire several bathing establishments close to the sea and the little ports where fishermen's boats are docked. Among the most lovely places, it's worthwhile mentioning the Quercianella, a small village immersed in the green with a peculiar cliff of pink stone that overlooks the sea. Waters are very clear and the seafloor is particularly appreciated by scuba diving fans; underwater fishing is also performed.

For those who want to spend a little time in contact with nature, we recommend to visit the provincial park of Monti Livornesi, a major protected area covering the hills at the back of the town, or also the Isola di Gorgona that, with its 220 hectares, is about 35 kilometres far from the coast and is included in the National Park of the Tuscan Archipelago.

In the night, the ideal is a relaxing walk through the Seventeenth-century quarter of Venezia Nuova, with its characteristic Fossi Medicei, namely a dense network of ship canals; the zone is also rich in fine pieces of architecture, churches and civil buildings, as well as an immense artistic and cultural heritage.
