Gioiosa Marea is one of the most famous and popular tourist destination in Sicily. Located in the province of Messina, along the Tyrrhenian side of the Sicilian coast, Gioiosa Marea is the nearest municipality to Isole Eolie.
Every year, especially in Summer, it attracts thousands of tourists coming from all over the world and they choose it as their holiday destination because of the optimal climate and of its natural beauties. It has numerous beaches all welcoming, clean and well-kept, the value of which is increased by the calm and crystal-clear waters of the sea which is ideal to bathe and swim. From the promontory of Capo Calavà to the small coves of Piratino Mare and Brolo, the coast offers to visitors a lot of chances to have fun: beaches are very different from one another, ranging from sandy beaches made up of fine, golden sand to those of gravel and pebbles; every need will be satisfied.
Among the best beaches there is the Spiaggia Capo Calavà: its inlet is occupied by this wonderful, well- equipped beach enclosed between two rocky edges; it can be reached on foot following some steep paths. It is a beach made up of fine gravel and small, smoothed pebbles, with a transparent, uncontaminated and crystal-clear sea. The landscape all around is wonderful and really breathtaking; to the ends of the promontory of Cavalà, there are a lot of grottos with a seabed made up of gravel and sand, which are populated by many colored fish.
At the sunset, you can enjoy having a walk along the water's edge or you can visit the city centre; during the summertime several cultural events and folkloristic manifestations are organized so that the streets and the squares of the town are crowded with people.
