Follonica

Information & Tips about Follonica:

Follonica is a small town in the province of Grosseto located at the centre of the homonymous gulf, also called Golfo del Sole, between Piombino and Punta Ala. This tourist destination is very renowned for its beaches of golden sand washed by the crystal clear waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea: for 9 consecutive years, exactly from 2000 to 2008, Follonica was awarded with the Bandiera Blu for the quality of its waters, and the services and safety it offers. For this reason it is ideal for families with children: in fact, the sea, with its seafloor that slopes gradually, can be considered as safe even for children. Among the most beautiful beaches we can mention that of Torre Mozza in front of Isola d'Elba and Cala Martina. For those who want to be completely surrounded by nature, we recommend to go to the beach so-called Carbonifera, which is far from bathing establishments and hotel facilities. All the beaches are enclosed by a thick vegetation, made up of Mediterranean Maquis and age-old pinewoods.

This tourist destination is especially interesting for its favourable position, given that it is very close to several attracting places: not so far from Follonica you can find several spas, such as Terme di Saturnia and Calidario di Venturina, where you can get back in shape while relaxing yourself. For those who love ancient history, it is also close to the town of Populonia with its important archaeological area.
