Castiglione della Pescaia, in the province of Grosseto, is a small seafaring village located on a promontory along the Maremma coast. It is an exclusive tourist destination, characterized by an unpolluted, crystal clear sea and well-equipped beaches so that it has been awarded in 2005 with the recognition "5 Vele" by Legambiente, coming first for its environmental and tourist quality in the annual rating of Legambiente and Touring Club.
There are several kind of beaches: next to golden, sandy beaches there are rocky beaches, some are free and wild, others equipped with all services. However, the coast is mostly shallow and sandy, ideal for families, too; with the exception of the Promontory of Punta Ala and that of Capezzolo, both characterized by rocky coast. Among the most beautiful beaches, there is the Spiaggia delle Rocchette, with its sandy seafloor that slopes gently where you can safely bath; its shoreline, a few hundred meters long, is characterized by steep cliffs colored of a particular shades of dark red. The sea is crystal clear and transparent so that you can clearly see the seafloor. Another enchanting beach is that of Marze, located between Castiglione della Pescaia and Marina di Grosseto, immersed in a thick, Maremma vegetation. Indeed, there are numerous and vast green areas in the town, composed by pinewoods, Mediterranean Maquis and scrubs, ideal for brief excursions by bike or by horse, or even to have a walk. In Castiglione della Pescaia you can enjoy life even at night: you can visit the city centre, where there are many Medieval buildings still perfectly preserved, such as the Castello Aragonese; finally, you can also find night clubs and discos, to amuse young people, too.
