Located in a privileged position, far from the main roads, but offering breathtaking panoramas, the municipality of Castiglioncello in the province of Livorno was hardly known by tourists since the second half of the last century, when the famous movie "Il Sorpasso" by Dino Risi was filmed mostly here. Since then, the town has become an usual destination for many famous personages belonging to the cinema and show business, such as Marcello Mastroianni and Alberto Sordi; today, this place is renowned all around the world thanks to its exclusive beaches and its sheer red cliffs falling in the Tyrrhenian Sea. There are some sandy coves, but most of them are rocky coves surrounded by a thick pinewood; however, they can be all easily reached. It is possible to lay in the sun and relax yourself even on the rocks, for the platforms obtained allow you to lay down comfortably. In Castiglioncello, you can find both free beaches and bathing establishments enclosed in protected bays and provided with all services for their guests: thus, they are ideal especially for families with children.

The sea washing these beaches is very unpolluted: Castiglioncello is, indeed, a very prestigious seaside resort so that it has been awarded with Bandiera Blu thanks to the quality of its waters, and the safety and services offered. When weather conditions are good you can see many surfers. Recently, the tourist port of Cala de' Medici has been inaugurated providing more than 600 berths: it is located opposite to the small islands of the Tuscan Archipelago.

The municipality of Castiglioncello is famous also for the numerous cultural events organized all the year round, among which there is the Dance Festival and the Literary Award Castiglioncello – Costa degli Etruschi. The National Archaeological Museum is also worth visiting for it can show several finds from Etruscan and Roman necropolis recovered at the beginning of the last century.
