Castelvetrano
Information & Tips about Castelvetrano:
Castelvetrano is one of the most famous and popular sites in the whole Sicily, the destination of thousands of tourists coming from Italy and all over the world attracted by breathtaking panoramas and a splendid sea.
Those who visit Castelvetrano cannot avoid being enchanted by the quality of its waters which are crystal-clear and uncontaminated; the coastline is very long and full of beaches. Among the most beautiful ones we can mention the Spiaggia della Riserva del Belice, which is included in the Natural Reserve Foce del Fiume Belice, few kilometers far from the town of Castelvetrano. The beach is made up of suggestive dune formations, the ideal habitat for several species of plants and animals. Moving towards the internal part of the coast, these stretches of fine, golden sand turn gradually into a calcareous ridge covered with a thick, uncontaminated vegetation made up of Mediterranean Maquis. The sea in front of the Spiaggia della Riserva del Belice is clean, transparent and calm with rather shallow seabed, which is ideal for families with young children.
Even in Marinella di Selinunte, an old fishermen port, there is a long sandy coast extending between the mouth of the river Selino and the small port East of Marinella. Many tourists visit also Triscina di Selinunte, another seaside hamlet of Castelvetrano: its six kilometers of coast are made up of fine, golden sand; some beaches are free, others private and endowed with modern, well-equipped bathing resorts.
For those who love nature and history, the Archaeological Park is surely worth visiting for its finds of ancient columns, basements and stone blocks which lie in harmony with the surrounding nature.
