Castellammare del Golfo
Information & Tips about Castellammare del Golfo:
The splendid town of Castellamare del Golfo lies at the foot of Monte Inici, right in the middle of the homonym gulf delimited to the East by Capo Rama and to the West by Capo San Vito. It belongs to the province of Trapani and is a very popular destination among both Italian and foreign tourists.
Its beauty lies particularly in the crystal-clear water and in the numerous beaches where you can relax enjoying peace and tranquility. The coast of Castellamare del Golfo is very varied: in fact, it is a jagged coastline that gives rise to several natural landscapes to please every kind of tourist. Those who love golden, sandy beaches can go to the Spiaggia della Plaja with its shallow seabed gently sloping that makes it ideal to swim, and families with young children can find here all the safety they are looking for.
For those who love stony beaches, Cala Petrolo – the beach located East to the castle – won't disappoint them; they can also visit the beaches of Guidaloca and Marina Grande, the latter is made up of dark gravel and small pebbles smoothed by the slow action of the sea, ideal for expert swimmers.
Finally, we recommend the beach of Scopello with its suggestive stacks; both on the massif of Mount Inice and on the rocky walls falling sheer to the sea, several caves are present that are worth visiting. First of all, there is the Grotta di Santa Margherita: located on a overhanging rock 15 meters above the sea level, it has its side walls adorned with several cave paints which can be traced back between the XIII and the XIV century. The Grotta della Ficarella is also very wonderful: it is an underwater cave included in the natural reserve of Zingaro to which we can gain access through a wide tunnel leading to a large entrance above the sea level.
