Capoliveri

Information & Tips about Capoliveri:

Capoliveri is one of the eight administrative communes in Isola d'Elba; its symbol is a dolphin representing loyalty to the sea and man's victory over the waters. After a past when the economy of the town was based mainly on the iron mining industry, now the leading resource is tourism: every year thousands of people come here to enjoy its crystal clear waters and its golden beaches. The latter extend across the south-east coast of Isola d'Elba; among the most beautiful ones we can mention the beaches of Calanuova, Ferrato, Lacona, Naregno and Straccoligno, characterized by large sandy shores and all can be easily reached. On the contrary, the coves between Punta della Calamita and Capo Calvo can be reached only by crossing the sea, but it's really worth it for there you can see enchanted places exactly because of their exclusivity. For those who love nature, we recommend to visit Costa dei Gabbiani so called because the most numerous colony of herring-gulls in the Mediterranean Sea nests along its rocks; while there is an area of Mediterranean maquis extending for more than 400 hectares all around. Furthermore, in the town of Capoliveri, besides hiking, trekking, riding mountain bike, horse-riding and free-climbing, several water sports can be played. From Capoliveri, that rises on the top of an isolated ridge, you can admire an unparalleled panorama: its favourable position allows to catch sight of the sea both to the South and to the West. During summer nights, you can walk along the little streets of the town or stop in its tiny squares full of restaurants, bars and ice-cream parlors where you can have something to drink or eat and relax yourselves; moreover, there are a lot of typical shops selling souvenirs and handmade products produced by the craftsmen of the city.
