Ameglia

Information & Tips about Ameglia:

The territory of Ameglia, included in the Natural Regional Park of Montemarcello Magra, is located in Lunigiana and extends from the banks of the river Magra to the tops of the Mount Caprione. The town lies on a hill, from which it can dominate the plain below. It comprises several hamlets, such as Ameglia, Bocca di Magra, Cafaggio, Fiumaretta and Montemarcello, the latter being declared as one of the most beautiful hamlets in Italy.

The town has numerous beaches: in fact, the coast of Ameglia extends from Marinella di Sarzana to Tellaro, where we can find rocks and cliffs. In Fiumaretta, beaches are instead made up of very fine and golden sand with a gentle slope encountering limpid and clear waters. The beach of Punta Corvo is surely worth visiting: it can be reached from the hamlet of Montemarcello and it has been awarded by Legambiente as one of the eleven most beautiful beaches in Italy in 2003. It is a quite large coastal inlet, with a beach made up of small stones, dark pebbles and sand; waters are deep within few meters from the shore, and the sea is characterized by an intense blue. The mountain at its back is covered with a thick vegetation of Aleppo pines, bushes and Mediterranean Maquis: from the top of it you can enjoy a really fantastic sight of an indescribable beauty. Bocca di Magra is also very nice, with its tourist port and the lido, and the beach of Punta Bianca.

The city centre of Amelia is full of monuments, buildings and places of great interest that tourists can visit even at night, perhaps after having dinner in one of the restaurants overlooking the sea, where you can taste the specialties of the area accompanied by vintage wines such as, for example, Vermentino dei Colli di Luni.
