Albissola
Information & Tips about Albissola:
Albissola, in the province of Savona, is located in the Riviera Ligure di Ponente, few kilometers far from the main town, and it is separated from the mouth of the torrent Sansobbia by the neighboring town of Albissola Superiore. Albissola is one of the prettiest Ligurian centres, renowned for its beaches that have been awarded with the Bandiera Blu uninterruptedly from 2005 to 2009. The important award certifies the quality of its waters, the cleanliness of its beaches and the general safety of this seaside resort.
The sea is clear and limpid, with a seabed reaching in few meters a considerable depth; there are several types of seabed ranging from the sandy and muddy ones to those characterized by smooth pebbles and rocks. Albissola Marina has a lot of golden, sandy beaches – like its seabed – while Albissola Superiore is mostly characterized by the presence of pebbles and stones. This expanse of sea is ideal for underwater excursions and allows tourists to come into contact with a suggestive and uncontaminated nature; it is not unusual to catch sight of the big cetaceans due to the proximity of the so-called Sanctuary of Whales.
In Albissola you can't miss a walk along the promenade, that is very different from the traditional promenade characterizing most seaside resorts. Here, the old seaside railway, with palm and olive trees at both side, was used to create the so-called "artists' promenade"; the street, 800 meters long, has 20 large polychrome panels containing about 5 millions of small colored tiles; they are a representation of the works made by the artists that once visited the town, among whom, we can mention Crippa, De Salvo, Fabbri, Luzzati, Rossello and Strada.
Furthermore, the town of Albissola is a member of the AICC, that is "Associazione Italiana Città della Ceramica", of which it is one of the founders; indeed, the manufacture of ceramics is an old, local tradition, as witnessed by the Museum of Ceramics "Manlio Trucco" as well as by the numerous craftsmen's shops.
