Aci Trezza

Information & Tips about Aci Trezza:

Aci Trezza is an hamlet of the municipality of Aci Castello, in the province of Catania, and it is one of the most renowned and appreciated Sicilian localities, chosen by thousands of tourists every year as their holiday destination due to its pleasant climate and its wonderful sea.

This old fishermen village is also known with the name of Riviera dei Ciclopi, and it offers to tourists a really unique panorama dominated by Faraglioni dei Ciclopi: eight big, basaltic stacks that, as the legend goes, were thrown by Polyphemus against Ulysses during his flight. They are also visible from the beach of Aci Trezza, that is placed North to Aci Castello; it is a beautiful beach of sand mixed with gravel and pebbles formed by lava, characterizing a peculiar black cliff of volcanic origin. The sea is very clean, its waters are crystal-clear and uncontaminated; the seabed is wonderful and ideal for scuba diving. There are many species of fish such as groupers, congers, moray eels, whitebaits all swimming among the green algae and Posidonia.

Not so far from the coast, less than 400 meters, there is also the isle of Lachea: the local "barcaroli" (boatmen) bring tourists there with their characteristic rowing boats.

At the sunset it is very pleasant to have a walk in Aci Trezza along its city centre full of craftsmen's workshops and nice restaurants and pizzerias. At night, the Sicilian town is crowded with people, above all young people, who after a stop in some bars go to the numerous discos and night clubs of the area where they can enjoy themselves till late at night.
